Wardruna sign to Sony Music/Columbia Records for the world and announce tour dates for 2020

WARDRUNA SIGN TO SONY MUSIC/COLUMBIA RECORDS FOR THE WORLD AND ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES FOR 2020; TICKETS GO ON SALE ON 11TH OCTOBER, 10AM BST, 11AM CEST

Masterful Norwegian storytellers Wardruna sign to Sony Music/Columbia Records for the world (partnering with Music for Nations for the UK), and announce European tour dates for 2020. Dates below with tickets going on sale on 11th October at 10am BST, 11am CEST.

Einar Selvik comments: “Wardruna has been a DIY to-the-bone kind of project since the very beginning. Slowly and patiently evolving. Working hard and always keeping the art itself as the primary decisive factor. This will never change for me, and so having people on our team that also embrace this way of working is paramount. Partnering up with Sony Music / Columbia Records is a new stepping stone for us and I am very confident that this new addition to the team will give us new opportunities to further develop our art and take it to the next level.”

2019 marks ten years since Wardruna’s first release. They have since sold-out shows at prestigious concert venues around the world, including a performance in the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater in the United States, followed by a sold-out European tour. The group’s monolithic and cinematic “Runaljod” trilogy based on the Nordic runes has reached its conclusion, and was followed by a stripped-down, fully acoustic album exploring the ancient poetic traditions of the Skalds. In spring 2020, a new chapter for the band will start. New music is being worked on as well as further steps in the band’s concert production.

“I don’t wish to reveal too much at this point but can say that we are now deep into the process of writing and recording a new album. When Wardruna gets up from the current studio-hibernation and initiate the concert-year of 2020, it is clearly allowed to hope for new music!”  Says Einar Selvik.

Wardruna have carved a rich, polyphonic and dramatic musical landscape that honours the ancient past without gimmick, whilst simultaneously illuminating meaningful expressions of Norse tradition through intrinsically detailed contemporary composition. Beyond genre, theirs is a sound that must be truly experienced. We cannot wait for what comes next.

“Wardruna have mastered a stark and spacious studio sound, leaving plenty of room for a refined version of the kind of primal keening that seems to come from deep within the European collective consciousness…Wardruna know how to create drama out of sparse sound design and concentrated musicianship.” – THE WIRE

“The authenticity and sincerity alive in every note of Wardruna ads a deep spirituality to music that…resonates with an ancient essence within us all.” – METAL HAMMER

“Wildly evocative and immersive, it demands to be absorbed as much as listened to. It’s both a meditative journey through prehistoric mists and an elegant reminder than cultural intuition and spiritual wisdom are by no means recent developments in humanity’s ongoing saga. The finest moments – the languorous UruR and the succinct Odal – are as spellbinding as anything else you’ll hear this year.” – PROG MAGAZINE

“The Runaljod trilogy is a stunning testament to the fascination that we still have for the symbols and the wisdom of our pagan past, and present.” – SPIRAL EARTH

“Wardruna is a musical exploration that goes beyond genres, becoming more an auditory experience that is both hypnotic and evocative” – THE QUIETUS
