Next month, audiences will have the chance to see Stephen O’Malley live at Zurich’s festival celebrating the 85th birthday of famed sound artist Alvin Lucier. On Oct 13th, O’Malley (one half of the core duo of SUNN O))), who performed very recently in Vevey) will be performing Lucier’s 2013 composition “Criss-Cross” for two electric guitars with Oren Ambarchi, as well as “Hannover” for violin, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, three electric guitars, piano and bowed vibraphone. On Oct 14th, O’Malley will play a solo set that shall commence at midnight.
These shows will take place at the Zurich University of Arts (ZHdK) and are free to the public to attend. Alongside Stephen O’Malley, Oren Ambarchi and Alvin Lucier himself, also performing are Joan LaBarbara, Charles Curtis Quartett, Anthony Burr, Hildegard Kleeb, Roland Dahinden, Trio Retro-Disco, Lars Mlekusch, Felix Profos and students of ZHdK. There will also be installations, workshops and many other events occuring during the four days – find all information, including a programme in English, at the event page.
